A friendly Eltham couple found this stunning sprawling earthy home by prominent 1970s architect Charles Duncan and asked us to open the dark central kitchen space with care.
A few walls were cleared and two long concrete benches were added to emphasize the long space that was found.
A central fire, a movie cabinet, and a sitting space were added to create a more generous central family room connected to east and west views.
Skylights allowed much needed north and midday sun to enter the space and skillful carpenters, joiners, and painters matched the existing details of the house crafted in rare American timbers.
